Hernan Cortes is penniless and landless but in his heart he knows he is destined to be a king. Consumed with ambition, he sails from Cuba to explore the coast of the lands to the west.
He takes prisoner a young Mayan princess, Malinali. Her father has been murdered by the country’s overlords, the Mexica, on the orders of their emperor, Montezuma. She hungers for revenge.
She became Cortes’s lover, devoting herself to the man she believes to be a living god. With just five hundred men, Cortes sets out from the coast to conquer a nation of millions. It seems utterly impossible – until she shows him how it can be done.
But at what cost?
Their journey to the heart of ancient Mexico and the eventual conquest of the Aztec nation is one of the most astonishing and tragic stories in history. Cortes has his conquest and Malinali has her revenge – but neither of them could foresee the cost for the country – or for themselves.
Feathered Serpent (published as La Princesa Azteca in Spanish and previously as AZTEC for Kindle) spent four months on the best sellers lists in Mexico.
What readers are saying:
“This novel pulsates with life and passion.” ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Amazon Review.
“The descriptions of the Aztec culture and the people they dominated made me feel as though I was really there in the battles, sacrifices and eventual fall and loss of a culture, that while bloody and misguided, had so much to offer in knowledge and an understanding of our natural world. A wonderful tale that I read in one day.” ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Amazon Review.

The scene was a publisher’s office in Mexico City.
My novel about the Mexican conquest had just been published there in translation, and had attracted a lot of attention, more than the publisher had anticipated. So, because of time constraints, I was being interviewed by three journalist at once.
Two of them liked my take on their history. The third did not.
What had made him so upset? It was the things I had written about a woman called ‘La Malinche’. I don’t think she particularly cared – by that stage, she had been dead for five hundred years.
So why did he and so many other Mexicans still feel so strongly about her? Read more…
